Sol Kinnis, B.A., DipRNS

Resource and Communications Director
With BCICS: May 2001 - Present

Sol brings to the institute a passion for co-operatives as a tool for social and economic justice. Sol's role at the institute is to help researchers, co-operators and community members access our tools and publications and help direct them to other available resources on co-operatives. In addition to this, Sol co-ordinates the Saxena Library for Co-operative Studies; is the production co-ordinator of the BCICS newsletter, the Anthill, is co-organizing the 6th Annual Building Co-operative Futures Conference with the BC Co-operative Association and is a member of the newly forming South Island Co-op Council.

Sol's major contributions to the Institute have been: organizing the Ethical Purchasing Forum; editing Co-operatives by Design: Building Blocks for Co-op Development, a guidebook for developing co-operatives; and researching the current status of the co-operative housing movement.

Outside of the BCICS, Sol is a director of a new non-profit housing development co-operative in Victoria. The Roofs and Roots Housing Co-operative is the first new non-profit housing co-op in Victoria in over 10 years. Sol is also involved with a new online  international community innovativecommunities.org that works together to build more inclusive and life-enriching sustainable communities.

Sol is the proud member of six co-operatives in Victoria and is now able to meet her families' financial, housing, transportation, pre-school and outdoor adventure needs through the co-op model. Her greatest love is her 4 year old daughter.
